Chopped Liver

Ok, I know this is a gross picture, but it is the best way I can show you how much hand quilting I have done lately. My "underneath" fingers look like chopped liver from the many pricks they have received from days of quilting. Right now, they are SO chopped up and calloused that I can hardly feel the needle.

That hasn't stopped me, though, from working on this piece in my black and white series. I'm really anxious to get it to a point where I can begin tackling the finishing issues I'm sure to have when I get to that point. Here, you can see some of the hand quilting on this piece.

Back to work...there is LOTS more to get done. BTW, I'm linking up with Nina-Marie's Off the Wall Friday. Check out all the other wonderful websites featured there.

For a minute I thought it was my fingers I was looking at! Great piece. I love black and white too! I think I have found a kindred spirit!

Cool piece! Bad fingers!! Hate when that happens!! I started to use 'New Skin' whenever I start work like that. Certainly helps but doesn't impede stitching!

Yes, we all can identify with the sore fingers. But hand stitching really looks great. Keep going,(after you heal) lol

We recently had a discussion about thimbles on the UK Contemporary Quilt list. Hilary Gooding says she uses a stainless steel teaspoon under the quilt (left hand) and her thimble on top (right hand).
I was thinking it would be worth trying. And seeing your fingers, I am sure it would!

LOL - you sound like me - you can always tell when I'm in the middle of a big hand quilting project because my underfinger has this callus on it - weird! I know that they sell stuff - and like Sandy says - you can use a spoon or such - but I don't know - I think it would throw off my rhythm after so many years of doing it with just the light touch of the needle

When in full hand quilting made (on a larger piece) I use two thimbles, one under, one up. You may want to try it some day.
