Quilters Day Out 2013

This past Saturday (March 9, 2013), the Patoka Valley Quilt Guild hosted Quilters Day Out in Ferdinand, Indiana. All in all, the day was a great success. There were speakers (The Crafty Ol'Broads--Linda Johnson/Jane Wells--and Julie Lambert), quilts on display, vendors, Show and Tell, prize drawings, and a "Treasure Table."

The "Treasure Table" was a VERY popular place.

Members of the quilt guild brought in their "treasures" to sell. There were LOTS of great bargains to be had. Sewing machines, fabric, quilt tops, quilting books and magazines, quilting tools and gadgets, patterns, and much much more were available for purchase.

The Patoka Valley Quilt Guild displayed several quilts. These are a few of my favorites.

These two Diamond Log Cabin quilts are "small" (maybe 25" square). They were foundation pieced by Geri Lueken from a pattern by Cindi Edgerton.

This quilt, "Dancing Cranes," is hand appliquéd and machine quilted by Becky Fuller.

Becky also made this quilt called "Village Houses." It is a mystery quilt that was featured in "QuiltMania" magazine and is machine and hand appliquéd and machine quilted by Becky.

Pamela Catt made "Black and White."

Marge Hevron's original quilt uses the "Turning Twenty" pattern for its background. She calls her quilt "My Mother's Flower Garden." It is machine quilted by Melissa Raschau of Nuthatch Quilts.

Sherri Hilgeman adapted this quilt pattern from a ca1885 Double Nine Patch quilt in "The Quilters Resource Book." It is machine quilted by Kaye Freschley.

Cheryl Rust's quilt, "Safari," is also machine quilted by Kaye Freschley. The source of the pattern is the A. E. Nathan Co., Inc.

Joyce Beck made this Bargello variation.

I had an especially good time; I won the BIG prize drawing--a Janome Gold Plus Trim and Stitch machine. One can NEVER have too many machines!

so what does a trim and stitch machine do?

I had a chance to play with the machine a little today. The "Trim and Stitch" part of the machine doesn't make it anything special (actually, I'm not sure why they call it that). It is just a light-weight, normal, small sewing machine good for taking to classes/retreats/meetings.
